Comparison
Aeryn P1 vs Gong Lowkite: Which Budget Parawing Is Better?
If you want to try parawing foiling without spending premium prices, these are your two options. The Aeryn P1 Pocket Wing and Gong Lowkite Plus are the two budget options in the category, and both have earned genuine respect from the community. Neither is a toy. Both are capable wings that deliver the core parawing foiling experience at a fraction of the price of BRM, Ozone, or F-One.
The question isn’t whether they’re good enough. They are. The question is which one suits your needs better. This comparison breaks it down.
Note: Gong refreshed the Lowkite into a five-model range on 20 April 2026. This comparison focuses on the Plus, the model that competes directly with the P1 on price and target rider. See our full Gong Lowkite review for the Neutra, Neutra Light, Droid and Pulse.

Price
Both wings undercut the rest of the market significantly. Which of the two is cheaper depends on where you buy: Gong wins in EUR (€329 against €659 RRP, or €459 on the P1’s current sale) and USD ($402 against $609), while the P1’s current £399 sale is the lowest GBP figure we hold, and Gong publishes no GBP pricing at all.
The Gong Plus runs €329 for the 2 m² to €489 for the 6 m², sold direct from France in EUR. There is no GBP option: Gong bills UK customers in euros.
The Aeryn P1 runs €429 to €529 direct from aeryn.world, against RRPs of €609 to €759, so every size is a standing discount. In the UK it is £399 to £709 through Powerkiteshop and SUP.co.uk.
Verdict: Gong, unless you are paying in pounds. The Plus undercuts the P1 at every comparable size in EUR, and starts $402 against $426 in USD. The P1’s answer is GBP, where its £399 3.0m is the lowest figure we hold for any parawing and Gong has no listed price at all.
Size Range
This section used to say the P1 won on top-end size. It no longer does, and the reversal came from both directions at once.
The Aeryn P1 now runs 2.5m to 5.0m. Aeryn have dropped the 6.0m from their own store and added a 2.5m, so the range has shifted down rather than grown. The 6.0m is still listed at Powerkiteshop and SUP.co.uk as run-down stock, so you can still buy one, but it is on the way out and we would not build a quiver around it.
The Gong Plus now runs 2 to 6 m² in half-size steps, nine sizes in total, after the April 2026 refresh. It reaches higher than the P1’s current ceiling and fills the gaps between sizes that the P1 leaves wide.
Verdict: Gong, and not narrowly. Nine sizes to four is a real difference if you want to match a wing to your conditions, and the Plus now goes larger than any P1 Aeryn still sell. The P1’s new 2.5m is the one place it competes, matching Gong’s smallest for strong wind.
Build Quality and Engineering
This is where the comparison gets interesting, because the P1 punches above its price point.
The Aeryn P1 uses a spliced Dyneema bridle (knot-free, maintaining full line tensile strength), a trailing edge micro rod (precision stiffening that maintains canopy shape during depower), and colour-coded pigtails. These are engineering details you’d expect on a premium wing, not a budget one. They come from the Peter Lynn/PLKB heritage: 20+ years of designing ram-air kites.
The Gong Plus uses single-skin construction with a pronounced arc and short bridle, reinforced leading edge, and nylon stiffeners for improved canopy shape. It’s well-built and shows genuine iteration from the original Lowkite. Gong’s strength is in their board and foil ecosystem rather than in canopy-specific innovation, but the V2 updates narrow the gap.
Verdict: P1 still has the more impressive engineering details. The Plus’s refinements are meaningful but less distinctive.

Performance
Power and Low-End
The P1 generates surprisingly strong low-end power for a budget wing. Riders coming from inflatable wings notice the difference immediately. The spliced Dyneema and trailing edge micro rod contribute to a canopy that holds its shape well through the power range.
The Plus is known for progressive power delivery. It builds power gradually rather than loading up suddenly, which makes it forgiving for beginners. The power is there, but it arrives gently.
Upwind
Neither wing matches the upwind performance of premium brands. The Plus has a slight edge here based on community feedback, possibly due to its longer track record and the V2 canopy refinements. The P1’s upwind ability is serviceable but not its strongest attribute.
Stability
The Plus feels composed across its range. The pronounced arc and progressive power delivery mean fewer surprises in gusty conditions. The P1 is stable on the water but requires some learning for beach handling. Finding the right flying angle during ground launch takes a few sessions.
Verdict: Plus is slightly more polished in overall performance. P1 has stronger low-end power.
Ease of Use
The P1’s low bridle count and colour-coded pigtails make it one of the fastest parawings to rig. Fewer lines mean fewer tangles and simpler setup. For a first parawing, this is a real advantage.
The Plus is also straightforward to set up. Gong’s approach favours simplicity, and the progressive power delivery means beginners are less likely to be caught out by sudden loading.
The P1’s beach handling has a steeper learning curve. Finding the right angle to keep the wing flying on the ground takes practice. The Plus is more forgiving in this regard.
Verdict: P1 is faster to rig. Plus is easier to launch.
Dealer Network and Support
The Gong Plus has a longer track record and more established community presence. Gong sells direct from France with good European shipping, and the brand has a strong reputation in the wider foiling community. Customer support is primarily French-speaking, which can be a consideration for English-speaking buyers.
The Aeryn P1 has a growing dealer network (MACkite in the US, Powerkiteshop and SUP.co.uk in the UK, several EU dealers) and sells direct from aeryn.world. The Equipe Trading B.V. parent company distributes to 60+ countries through 650+ retailers, so the infrastructure for support is there even if the parawing-specific network is still building.
Verdict: Plus has more established presence. P1’s parent company has strong distribution infrastructure.
Who Each Wing Suits Best
Choose the Aeryn P1 if:
- Price is the primary factor and you are buying in GBP, where the P1 currently sits lowest
- You appreciate engineering quality (spliced Dyneema, trailing edge micro rod) even at budget prices
- You want fast, simple rigging with low bridle count and colour-coded pigtails
- You want the new 2.5m as a dedicated strong-wind wing
- You plan to add it as a strong-wind second wing alongside a larger premium wing
Choose the Gong Lowkite Plus if:
- You value progressive, forgiving power delivery for learning
- You prefer a more established brand with a longer community track record
- You’re buying from Europe and want straightforward direct purchasing from France
- You want a wing that’s slightly more polished in overall handling, or you need a size the P1 no longer offers
- You might want to stay within the Gong ecosystem (Neutra for freestyle, Neutra Light for marginal wind, or the Droid and Pulse double-skins, all now purchasable)
The Verdict
Both wings are legitimate entry points to parawing foiling, but the gap between them has widened since we first wrote this, and it has widened in Gong’s favour.
For a first-time buyer the Plus is now the clearer pick: cheaper in EUR and USD, progressive and forgiving to learn on, and nine sizes against four. The P1 keeps the more impressive engineering for the money, the spliced Dyneema bridle and trailing edge micro rod in particular, and it is the cheaper wing in the UK, where Gong publishes no price at all. That last point is the strongest remaining reason to choose it.
What tipped the balance was the size ranges moving in opposite directions. The P1’s 6.0m, which used to be its trump card for light wind, is discontinued at Aeryn and now only available as dealer run-down stock, while the Plus gained half-size steps and a 6 m². Choosing the Plus also gives you a path within the Gong range: the Neutra for agility, the Neutra Light for marginal wind, and the Droid and Pulse double-skins, all now in stock. The P1 stands alone in Aeryn’s lineup.
